SIROW’s Claudia Powell recognized as the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Scholar of the Year!
Claudia Powell was recognized as the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) Scholar of the Year for 2023! This award acknowledges faculty in SBS who have been especially productive in their research, academic, and/or creative endeavors.
In 2023, Claudia played a key role in bringing in $18.8 million in extramural funding to the university. All of these extramural funds support community-focused collaborative research and action projects of importance to diverse groups and of substantial long-lasting and wide-spread impact – in total Claudia led 14 research and action projects in 2023. This funding supports enhancement and expansion of accessible quality culturally and individually tailored care, education, and other supportive services to historically marginalized and underserved populations to address health, education, and opportunity disparities. Much of Claudia’s work accomplished in 2023 not only significantly increased the amount of SIROW’s contribution to society, scholarship, and UArizona’s and SBS’s research, teaching, and land grant missions, but also advanced and expanded the nature of the contribution, for example in the area of workforce development. In 2023, Claudia partnered with 19 community partners in the U.S., researchers from 6 different UArizona units, and multiple individuals in Niger.
Congratulations Claudia! So well deserved!
