Providers' Perspectives: Factors that Influence Homeless Service Provision in Arizona, United States.

Researchers at SIROW (Shuman, Murphy, & Powell), in collaboration with colleagues from the Arizona Housing Analytics Collaborative (AzHAC), have a new paper out in the International Journal on Homelessness entitled Providers’ Perspectives: Factors that Influence Homeless Service Provision in Arizona, United States. This work is in response to growing homelessness in Pima County and Arizona. For this project, the research team conducted interviews and focus groups with over 60 providers across the state to identify factors that made it easier or more challenging to provide services to people experiencing homelessness. Providers identified barriers and facilitators across many domains, including individual factors (e.g. health, pets, lack of ID), organizational factors (e.g. staff turnover, shelter requirements) and community/policy level factors (e.g. transportation, resource availability, and housing prices & availability). The findings can be useful to organizations and policymakers, providing insight on how current and proposed strategies to address homelessness align with factors and priorities identified by frontline and administrative providers.
