Balancing Behavioral Health World Views
SIROW and the University of Arizona's (UA) American Indian Research Center for Health (AIRCH) are proud leaders of the 7 Generations American Indian and Alaska Native Behavioral Health Center of Excellence (7 Generations CoE) project. This project aims to bridge Indigenous approaches to healing with western behavioral health models. As principal investigator of the project, SIROW's Claudia Powell expresses, "At the foundation of 7 Generations is the truth that Indigenous people know where the strengths and opportunities exist for their communities, and the CoE is here to support those initiatives." The council steering the CoE comprises 18 tribal leaders from around the country whose expertise informs the culturally-responsive approaches and curriculum carried forth through the center's training program to educate behavioral health professionals serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
