Nicole Borchaloui joined the SIROW team in July 2021 as a Research Specialist for the U-MATTER project after graduating from the University of Arizona with a BA in Sociology and a BFA in Studio Art. She has worked for the University of Arizona since 2013 at the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and the Center for English as a Second Language. As an undergraduate student, she assisted in several research projects in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and is excited to use her research experience at SIROW. As a native to Tucson, Nicole enjoys working with grassroots organizations on projects that address local concerns. She has volunteered with the International Rescue Committee’s New Roots gardening program for the past few years and has interned with the City of South Tucson and the UA Whetstone Prison Project, an environmental education program that seeks to empower incarcerated students and lower recidivism rates. She hopes to dedicate more of her time to these programs in the future. Nicole is currently pursuing an MA in Human Rights Practice and considering a long-term career in research. She uses a radical, eco-feminist lens for the analysis of social problems and is most passionate about community-based participatory action research, especially research that centers women and children of color.
