George Lopez, BA, has been practicing community-based participatory action research with people and communities affected by homelessness and social disparities as a Research Specialist at SIROW since April 2019. Mr. Lopez has a background in family preservation and connecting families to community-based services. He has a particular interest in improving systems and policies that negatively affect access to quality services for the homeless community including behavioral, mental, and physical healthcare. Mr. Lopez has contributed to a variety of community-based participatory action research projects that support and promote the health of individuals, families, and communities experiencing poverty, homelessness, violence, incarceration, discrimination, substance use and other mental health challenges. Mr. Lopez’s experience working for the Department of Child Safety for five years has contributed to his ability to connect with the community on a social and professional level.
