Sheryl Nelson
Sheryl Nelson, a Diné woman from Navajo Mountain, Arizona, holds an M.A. in Cultural Anthropology, with an emphasis in Medical Anthropology. She is the Program Manager for the 7 Generations: American Indian Alaskan Native Behavioral Health Center of Excellence program through SIROW. She is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Health Behavior Health Promotion at the University of Arizona (UA). At UA she has worked as a Community Assessment Specialist in Health Promotion Sciences and as a Program Coordinator for the Arizona Center for Rural Health, Advancing Health Equity Addressing Disparities (AHEAD AZ) program. In her role at AHEAD AZ, she assisted in program management, supporting community outreach and education on activities related to COVID-19 health mitigation and preventative services. She co-developed the Public Health Fundamentals Training, a program introducing conceptual foundations of public health and related topics to public health department staff and employees in Arizona. Before joining UA, Sheryl worked at Northern Arizona University (NAU) on multiple interdisciplinary research projects focused on health, Indigenous communities, and wellness. She is also a part-time faculty member at Coconino Community College (CCC), teaching Introduction to Cultural Anthropology and Introduction to Physical Anthropology.
